If You Gotta Cut...Cut here.

i am a huge fan of how this card turned out. as some of you may know, i am not partial to re-cut photos or cards as the medium for the signature in question. this one has such an iconic stance highlighted from the knees down. combine this with the chucks and socks and we are not only  looking at classic basketball posture, but fasion as well. sheer excellence in where to cut if you have to. [oh and my shift keys are crapped out so deal.] i bought one blaster of cut signatures and landed this...

'daffy' was realted to 'dizzy' dean, and made some fame for himself as well. wouldn't you know i was strapped for cash and sold it the next day for 120.00and change. if i were a retired/deceased auto collector this would never have left my hands. it is an awesome piece but i have to get used to only keeping a photo of some of my pulls.

Ones That Got Away: Jim Palmer 2005 Origins

There are only three reasons why I am ok with having let this go(despite having no money at all)
1. Jim has an insane sig and I want the right version of it for my collection, and I've seen better.
2. Jim has a relatively extensive on-card selection to chose from
3. I f&^king hate the little glove. history be damned, that cutesy little diorama sucks except for the banner.

This caught my eye...

I am a huge fan of Ken being back in Seattle. Granted it means I am back to reading about him instead of live footage. (I see the mariners, Giants and Padres play like 10 times a year altogether. My point is this: As you can see, this card is mocked up to be a Seattle Mariners card from stem to stern. Why would they not be able to come up with a photo of him with the mariners? See here, #8 in the Burdick Region. They had an assload of photos around and couoldn't get it done. I guess this affects me more because I ave always despised seeing him in a reds uniform. I don't even collect cards of him on the reds. Bud gets my Reds cards.
Anyway, bottom line is that with a signature that appealing (shit is real) (granted it goes "just a bit outside" on the top of the sticker, but I would happily take it home), why would you want to draw the eye away with a clashing red-jersey photo.

I Am A Winner.

Captain Canuck, a true gentleman from the Great White North, hooked it up for my prize for the NFL Playoffs Pool. I did pick the saints to win over the colts. I have no idea why, but it seemed incredibly insightful at the time, and I won the contest by a slim margin.
Included in this bounty were RCs(kind of) of Brett Favre, Ivan Rodriguez, Jim Thome and Pedro. along with a few packs for that old-timey feel. I chose one card from each pack to display. As you can see, I actually did very well for myself.
I busted alot of packs of Skybox year one along with score, donruss et al in that time period. I am still hot for the graphics on the Skybox cards. I deeply wish that there was a baseball version. Just envision it now...
I had a couple of Boardwalk cards from god knows where, but did not know who was on the checklist. I was pleasantly surprised with a set you want to read like a book.
I had the UD Final Edition when I was like 14, and do not know what happened to it. It was the first "update" set I had, because I do not count my 1990 Topps Traded. (bush league)

Gary Jarrett Has No Teeth

Smile, Gary. You have perfected your sig since adopting it's current form in 8th grade. Your "G" is fantasticly tall and we here at SIGNHEREANDHERE are huge fans of the thick pen and the repeat of the "music note" portion of the "G" and the "y". Keep Smiling, Gary. you are a hero to me.

Gentlemen:The Curve vs. The Straight (things I already miss about UD)

I just wanted to point out that the Pep auto is so sick It's like he knew what Pokemon were in 1988, like visionary. Anyway. What we have up top is the fail at UD to produce something unique. The font, the boxes, even the proportion have been used again and again in the last 10 yrs...So sick of it.

Press Pass, with no MLB licence, and not a huge signing base, is looking like they may be able to fill those empty spots on your Dance-card in the coming years.

Now both of these signatures are exceptional by modern standards, but what I want to look at here is the "curve" theme vs. the "straight", or "classic", theme. I am speaking of vertical cards. Obviously PressPass Fusion took a line from Ultimate's recent playbook and it doesn't play badly necessarily. The step-sister seems to have learned the older sister's dance moves pretty darn well. The batter in the lower corner seems a little forced, but all in all, by not using blinding colors (or even color photos) but the foil is in moderation and the suto is on card. big points.

I'm just sayin.

I have no money and no one shops for cards at my target but me. 2010 blasters are still there...I now officially hate how well Yo Momma's Trash Promo is working, but only because I can't play right now.

Craftsmen: Randy Johnson

The fact that this dude was one of the most intimidating pitchers to take the mound since Nolan Ryan does not escape me. What has escaped me, until now, has been the quality of Randy's signature. I have really only seen but so many of his Autos, due to his generally short print-runs. Our tall, lanky anti-hero here seemed as inaccessible as the fourth post of the cauldron, until I came across his crafted, unassuming signature. It is almost always the same, and has not changed a tremendous amount over time. I would have pegged randy for an AD, or at least, Hanley Ramirez style scrawl, but we get the mark of a gentile sportsman, a gentleman even. Congrats on the retirement Randy, Remember that time you killed that bird when you were with Seattle?...and then refused to acknowledge it to the press afterwords?, I have been scared shitless. point made.

Gentlemen: Gale Sayers

I like, not love, the card design, but the signature stands alone in the light. I haven't seen any instances where Gale created a much different insignia. I love the unintentional way that both initials look like numbers (9, 2 backwards). I am like deleriously hungry, and may or may not be hallucinating. This also looks like it was a signature style that Gale picked up around 8th grade, when he had to start writing essays more. We all know an essay won't get graded without writing your name on it (I teach 18yr olds who still have a problem remembering. some of them must be stoned right?) Damn sticker auto, at least it doesn't cut the y off......wait I just wandered out of the light!

Evolution = change/time

I would like this to be a blog that makes people get up in the morning, drink coffee and change their lives, but it is not. I just post scans and pictures of Autographs and then either provide somekind of commentary on the design, signature, significance or the always popular, nothin'. Auto-matic for the People has it down for formatting the exhibition of auto cards, and I try not to bite others' steez.

Ones That Speak To Me: Cal Ripken Jr. (two dots)

I love this particular rendition of Cal's AUTO. Full C, full R and both dots. I entered into a group break over at Oldschoolbreaks,( http://oldschoolbreaks.wordpress.com/), and I am really pulling for any auto from this era. Donruss, historically has been my least favorite production company (save for 85)but spent some time and consideration in the early 00s, making some exceptionally pleasing on-card autos...but I probably don't need to tell you that. I have none. I want one. Done.

Casual Fingers

Rollie Fingers you're my hero. Look at that thing...It's gorgeous. The card leaves much to be desired but would be a neat collectible if it were mine.
( I don't have NEAR enough Rollies in Brewers unis.)

This is what we are missing with dudes like Chris Johnson signing stickers a 1000 at a time.
I LOVE this set. I have a George Scott, and had a Roy White (sold) wish I could get a box of this for christmas. I have a Spahn AUTO, but the rest of these are pure aesthetic joy to me.

Presidential Cut AUTOs and preferences.

Cut this or keep it? (sweet spot doesn't actually have to make that choice...cheap-manufactured-fading-sig-crap)

Nice set-up Razor (who are you guys? Not as sharp as their name sounds) Centering of cut autos can be tough, I am sure, but I hate it when they stray "outside of the box."

The only other Razor card I have is a Matt Weiters Auto that I got for about 6bucks. It's ugly as hell, but I am on a budget. And I wanted his 'graph real bad.

Amazing card. Window is just the right size and the simple, sensitive greeting and signature are perfectly centered (I really appreciate that)
A couple thousand bucks stop here.

A General, a gentleman, a President.
The Man's man. Solid signature, pretty excellent cut and great exhibit by the design.

No comment. I liked the Chevy Chase version better...("I was told there would be no math...")

Elegant, understated, illegible.

Spectacular design. I will call it "American Presidential excess on parade" I would covet this one, even if it isn't a "major" war president. Plus he was in "All in the Family wasn't he?" (No)

George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. Design takes away the possibility of awe-inspiring, musketpowder smelling history-in-hand experience. "This is co-signers...I hate that set".

We see alot more "cut autographs" in the current hobby. We are also, among those seeing a lot of presidential signatures. I would be literally honored to pull a presidential signature, with a couple of exceptions. Dwight D. Eisenhower is NOT one of them. Just pulling one of these is history at the smithsonian level. one might call it "epic". (not me)
